White smoke is caused by grease. It's not a fire hazard but needs addressing.
- Unplug the appliance immediately if dark smoke appears. Wait for smoke to stop before removing the basket.
- For white smoke, carefully remove excess oil or grease from the pan and continue cooking.
- After cooking, clean the pan and basket thoroughly. Residual grease from previous cooks will smoke when reheated.
Prevent it: pat dry marinated foods or juicy meats before placing them in the basket. Press breading firmly onto food so small bits don't fall into the fat.
Heads up: Never leave the appliance unattended while in operation.
