Yes, it's normal. The external surfaces get warm from internal heat radiation.
The appliance is safe. All handles and knobs you need to touch during operation remain cool enough to handle. The areas that get too hot to touch are marked with a hot surface icon. Just be aware of those spots and avoid touching them.
Heads up: The cooking pot, basket, and the interior of the appliance always get extremely hot during use. Handle them with care. Always leave at least 10 cm of free space on the back, sides, and above the appliance for proper airflow.
