The brush roll drive is automatic but can be inhibited. Confirm the following states.
- Cleaner head height setting: The NV356E has a manual adjustment dial on the cleaner head. For medium to high-pile carpet, set the dial to the highest setting (usually marked with a carpet icon). For low-pile or bare floors, set it lower.
- Brush roll obstruction: Unplug the vacuum. Turn it over and manually remove any hair, string, or debris wrapped tightly around the brush roll ends.
- Belt condition: Inspect the brush roll belt through the cleaner head access. A worn or broken belt will not turn the brush roll. The belt is a user-replaceable part.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: The automatic brush roll motor in the cleaner head may have failed. This is a component issue. Test by setting the height to the bare floor setting—if the brush roll still doesn't spin on any surface, the motor is likely faulty.
