my shark nv356e lift away canister won't detach from the upright dock. it's stuck. how do i get it loose?

— asked by Amanda

The release latch is likely jammed with debris or not fully disengaging.

Fix:

  1. Unplug the vacuum.
  2. Press the red Lift-Away release button on the back of the canister firmly. Listen for a click.
  3. While holding the button, firmly grasp the canister handle and pull it straight up and back. Do not wiggle side-to-side.
  4. If it still won't budge, inspect the docking area on the upright handle. Clear any dirt, hair, or debris packed around the latch mechanism with a brush or cloth.
  5. Try the release button and pull again.

If that didn't work: The internal latch mechanism may be broken. Do not force it. If clearing debris and a firm pull on the release button doesn't work, the unit requires service.

Heads up: Regularly wipe down the docking area on the upright handle and the bottom of the canister to prevent dirt buildup that can jam the mechanism.
