Yeah, this one's common and usually means there's excess oil or leftover grease in the basket. It's not necessarily broken. First, stop the cycle and unplug the unit to be safe. Let it cool.
- Once cool, pull out the inner pot and basket. Clean the basket thoroughly with hot water and mild soap. Grease residue from a previous cook is a prime culprit.
- For your next cook, wipe down whatever you're cooking to remove excess oil before putting it in. Using too much oil directly causes this smoke.
If you've cleaned it and it still smokes with a normal amount of oil, check that you're not overfilling the inner pot. Never fill it more than two-thirds full, as foods can bubble over and cause issues. Also, make sure you're not covering the steam release port on the lid or the air vents on the back of the base.
Heads up: Never use aerosol cooking sprays. They gunk up the non-stick coating and can contribute to this smoking problem over time.
