set up my new ring alarm but the keypad won’t pair with the base station at all

— asked by Casey

Quick answer: The keypad is likely too far from the base station during the initial Z-Wave pairing process, or it wasn’t put into discovery mode correctly.

Diagnosis

The keypad is likely too far from the base station during the initial Z-Wave pairing process, or it wasn’t put into discovery mode correctly.

How to Fix It

Bring the keypad right next to the base station. On the keypad, press the ‘#’ and ‘0’ keys together for 3 seconds until it beeps and the light ring spins. Immediately go to the Ring app, select ‘Add Device’ for the alarm, and follow the prompts to add the keypad. Do not move it until setup is complete.

IF THAT DIDN’T WORK The keypad may have been previously paired. Factory reset it by pressing and holding the ‘#’ and ‘0’ keys together for 15 seconds until the light ring flashes red three times. Then try pairing again next to the base station.

Heads Up

Z-Wave devices like the keypad pair directly to the base station, not your Wi-Fi. Always add them within 10 feet of the base to ensure a strong signal for pairing.
