the brushroll on my shark navigator isn’t spinning. the vacuum runs but the roller is dead.

— asked by Alex

DIAGNOSIS The brushroll drive belt is either broken, stretched, or dislodged. A severe hair wrap can also seize the brushroll bearings.

FIX Turn the vacuum over. Flip the two latches to open the brushroll cover. Remove the brushroll. Check the belt. If it’s broken or melted, replace it with a Shark part # XFF350. Clear any hair from the brushroll ends.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The brushroll motor (in the pod) may have failed. You can test by listening near the pod when the vacuum is on and brushroll engaged. If you hear a whirring but no spin, the motor gearbox is likely stripped.

HEADS UP Always cut hair off the brushroll with scissors. Never pull it. Pulling can damage the bearings and unseat the drive belt.
