Diagnosis
Cloudy, soft ice is caused by impurities in the water and/or the freezing cycle being too fast. Air and minerals get trapped, creating that opaque, slushy texture.
How to Fix It
Switch to using filtered or distilled water. This is the single biggest factor. The minerals in hard tap water create cloudiness. If you must use tap water, let a full pitcher sit in the fridge overnight so gases escape, then use that.
If That Didn't Work
The unit might be in a too-warm environment. Ensure it's not in direct sunlight or next to a heat source like an oven. Ambient temperature above 90°F can prevent proper hardening. Also, clean the condenser vents at the back with a vacuum brush attachment.
Heads Up
The first few batches after a cleaning or first use will always be cloudy—that's normal. Discard them. Clear ice only starts after 2-3 cycles once everything is properly chilled.
