DIAGNOSIS Odors from the surrounding environment are being absorbed by the ice. This unit has no built-in air filter.
FIX Clean the entire water system. Run a cleaning cycle with a citric acid solution as described for the clean light. Then, run several cycles with fresh water only and discard the ice, to flush the system.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The plastic taste often comes from the new unit itself. It can take 10-15 cycles to dissipate. Ensure you are using fresh, cold water in the reservoir each time, not water that's been sitting.
HEADS UP Do not place the ice maker near strong-smelling foods, cleaning supplies, or in a musty basement. Ice is a sponge for odors. Store ice in a sealed container if your freezer has strong smells.
