the lid on my brita water pitcher won't close all the way or feels loose, how do i fix it?

— asked by Sam

This usually happens if the filter isn't seated correctly or if there's something blocking the lid's path. It's an easy fix.

First, check the filter. Open the lid and make sure the filter is pushed all the way down. The groove on the filter needs to line up perfectly with the ridge inside the reservoir. If it's crooked or not fully seated, the lid can't close properly. Press it down firmly until you feel/hear a solid click.

Next, check for obstructions. Look for the small plastic "Fill Lid" under the main lid. Make sure it's centered and not jammed. Sometimes, if you overfill the reservoir or water splashes up, it can get misaligned.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: If the lid mechanism itself feels broken or cracked, the pitcher needs to be replaced. Also, for certain models like the Pattern Series, if water gets trapped under the sleeve, you need to let the pitcher air dry upside down at room temperature—that can sometimes affect how parts fit.

HEADS UP: Only hand-wash the lid and pitcher with mild detergent. The dishwasher can warp the plastic and cause fit issues.
