Diagnosis
The issue is typically a misunderstanding of the Pulse button's mechanical operation. Unlike a standard power switch that toggles "on" and "off" with a single press, the Pulse function on the Vitamix ONE is a momentary contact switch. If the blender continues to run, it is either because the button is being held down or the internal switch has become physically stuck in the depressed position.
How to Fix It
To operate the Pulse function correctly, follow these steps:
- Ensure the blender is plugged in and the container is locked into place.
- Press and hold the Pulse button firmly. The motor will run at high speed only as long as your finger is applying pressure to the button.
- Release the button immediately to stop the motor.
- For chopping or coarse blends, use short 1-to-2 second bursts rather than a single long press.
If That Didn't Work
If the motor continues to run even after you have completely removed your finger from the button, the switch is likely jammed or the control board has failed.
- Unplug the unit from the wall outlet immediately to prevent motor overheat.
- Inspect the Pulse button for any sticky residue or debris that might be preventing it from popping back up.
- Gently press the button several times to see if it "clicks" or feels mushy; a lack of tactile feedback indicates a mechanical failure.
- If the button is physically stuck, clean around the edges with a damp cloth and a toothpick. If it remains stuck, the unit requires professional service.

Do not use the Pulse button as a substitute for the variable speed dial for long-term blending. Pulse is designed for high-torque, short-duration bursts. Running the motor continuously via the Pulse button can cause unnecessary heat buildup in the motor housing.
