the washer won't drain at all, just sits there full of water at the end of the cycle.

DIAGNOSIS The drain pump is either clogged or has failed. A clog is far more common.

FIX First, check for a simple drain hose kink behind the machine. If clear, access the drain pump filter. Turn off power and water. Place towels, open the small service door at the bottom front, unscrew the filter cap slowly to drain residual water, and remove any debris (hair, lint, coins).

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The pump itself may have burnt out. You can test it by listening for a humming sound when the washer tries to drain; humming with no action means a jammed impeller, total silence likely means a dead pump motor.

HEADS UP Never force the pump filter cap open. It's threaded. If it hasn't been cleaned in years, sediment can make it very tight—use pliers gently on the ribs.
