trying to set up my new nest cam and the app just won't find the device, it keeps searching forever.

DIAGNOSIS This is a classic setup handshake failure. Usually, it's because your phone's Bluetooth isn't helping the initial connection, or you're trying to connect the camera to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network instead of 2.4GHz.

FIX Follow this sequence closely. 1) Force quit the Google Home app and reopen it. 2) Ensure your phone's Bluetooth and Location Services are turned ON. 3) Bring your phone right next to the camera (within a foot). 4) Make sure you're selecting your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network during setup (not the 5GHz one). 5) Have the camera plugged in and the status light solid yellow. Now try adding the device again.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Your phone might be connected to a VPN or using a cellular connection. Turn off any VPN on your phone and make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the camera on. Sometimes, switching your phone to airplane mode for 10 seconds and then turning just Wi-Fi and Bluetooth back on can clear the glitch.

HEADS UP The QR code scan is finicky. Make sure your room is well-lit, and don't shake your phone. Hold it steady about 6 inches from the camera's lens. If it fails a few times, you can manually enter the setup code printed with the QR code.
