Diagnosis
A constant leak during the fill cycle on an LG WM4000HWA typically indicates a failure in the water delivery system rather than the drainage system. Because the leak occurs specifically during fills, the issue is likely located in the high-pressure zone. The most common culprit is a hairline crack in the water inlet valve assembly or a failing rubber washer inside the hot/cold supply hoses. When the solenoid valves open to allow water into the drum, the increased pressure forces water out of any compromised seal, which then trickles down the internal chassis and pools at the bottom front of the machine. Another possibility is a "slow leak" from the door gasket (bellows). While the bellows usually leak during the wash or spin cycle, a puncture at the very bottom fold can allow water to seep out during the fill process if the water level rises quickly or if there is significant splashing during the TurboWash 360 jet action. You can confirm the source by placing a dry paper towel on the floor beneath the machine and observing exactly where the first drop hits; if it is centered, it is likely the pump or gasket; if it is shifted toward the back-left or back-right, it is almost certainly the inlet valves or hoses.
How to Fix It
To resolve a leak occurring during the fill stage, follow these precise steps to isolate and repair the inlet system:
- Power down the unit and unplug it from the 120V outlet. Shut off both the hot and cold water supply valves located behind the machine.
- Pull the washer away from the wall to access the rear. Dry the exterior of the hoses and the back of the machine completely using a microfiber cloth.
- Carefully unscrew the inlet hoses from the back of the washer. Inspect the black rubber washers inside the hose couplings. If they are flattened, cracked, or brittle, replace them with new 3/4-inch rubber washers.
- Inspect the plastic threaded inlets on the machine. Look for "stress cracks" in the plastic housing of the water inlet valve. If you see a vertical crack in the plastic, the entire valve assembly (Part #DC92-01505A or equivalent) must be replaced.
- If the hoses and valves are dry, reconnect the hoses. Tighten them first by hand, then give them a 1/4 turn with pliers. Over-tightening can crack the plastic housing.
- Run a "Quick Wash" cycle. Use a flashlight to watch the connection points during the first 2 minutes of the cycle to ensure no droplets are forming at the couplings.
If That Didn't Work
- Inspect the Door Bellows Gasket: Open the door and use a bright light to inspect the bottom fold of the rubber gasket. Look for small pinholes or tears caused by foreign objects (like bra wires or coins). If you find a tear, the gasket must be replaced, as these cannot be reliably patched with adhesive.
- Check the Detergent Drawer Housing: Sometimes the detergent drawer becomes clogged with hardened powder, causing water to overflow the drawer tray during the fill cycle. This water runs down the front panel and pools at the bottom. Remove the drawer entirely, scrub the housing with warm water, and run a cycle without the drawer to see if the leak persists.
- Examine the Drain Pump Filter: While the leak happens during fill, a loose drain pump filter (located behind the small square door at the bottom left) can allow residual water to seep out. Ensure the filter cap is tightened clockwise until it fully seats. If the O-ring on the filter is pinched, it will leak constantly.
- Verify Leveling Legs: If the machine is tilted too far forward, water can splash over the front lip of the inner tub during the high-pressure TurboWash fill, leading to a leak that appears to be coming from the bottom. Use a bubble level on the top surface and adjust the leveling legs until the machine is perfectly horizontal.

- Always use braided stainless steel hoses instead of reinforced rubber hoses to prevent catastrophic bursts.
- Avoid using "leak-stop" tapes on the plastic threads of the inlet valve; the seal is created by the rubber washer, not the threads.
- Clean the drain pump filter every 30 days to prevent sediment buildup that can cause pressure imbalances.
- If you replace the inlet valve, ensure the machine is completely unplugged, as you will be working with live electrical connectors near water sources.
