why does food at the bottom of the basket burn before the top is even cooked in my 8qt chefman

— asked by Sam

DIAGNOSIS This is a classic air fryer issue, often due to overcrowding or not using the right accessory for the cooking mode. In the Chefman 4-in-1, the heating element is at the top, so without proper air circulation, the bottom (closest to the hot air’s exit path) cooks fastest.

FIX You need to improve air flow. 1) Never fill the basket more than halfway. Food needs space between pieces. 2) For baking or more delicate items, use the provided wire rack or baking pan accessory. Elevating the food allows hot air to circulate underneath. 3) For larger batches, shake or toss the food in the basket at least once during the cooking time. This is non-negotiable for even results.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If you’re already doing all that, try lowering the temperature by 25°F and adding a few more minutes to the cook time. The 450°F “Hi-Fry” setting is very powerful and can scorch the outside of some foods before the inside heats through.

HEADS UP The dehydrate function uses a much lower temperature and a different fan speed. Don’t use the “Hi-Fry” setting for things like jerky or dried fruit—that’s a surefire way to burn the bottom layer.
