A grinding noise indicates a paper feed mechanism jam or obstruction.
Fix: Power off the printer. Open all access doors. Remove any crumpled paper or foreign objects from the paper path. Clear all trays. Check for a stray piece of torn paper or a paper clip. Close all doors securely. Power on.
If that didn't work: The noise may be from the print head carriage. Manually move the print head to the center of its track to see if it moves smoothly. Look for obstructions in the carriage rail.
Safety: Always power off before clearing jams. Do not force components. If the grinding persists after clearing obstructions, the internal feed rollers may be worn and require service.
