White smoke is a common issue and usually isn't a cause for alarm. It's typically caused by cooking fatty foods or from old grease residue in the unit.
- If you're cooking something fatty right now: Carefully pour off any excess oil or fat from the cooking pot and continue cooking.
- If the smoke started at the beginning of a cook: It's likely from grease left in the pot from last time. Unplug the unit, let it cool, and give the pot and basket a thorough clean.
If that didn't work: Check your food. Loose breading can cause smoke—press it firmly onto the food. Also, pat dry any marinated foods or meats before putting them in the basket to prevent juices from splashing into hot fat.
Heads up: Air fryers can emit smoke when cooking fatty foods. If you ever see dark smoke, unplug the appliance immediately and wait for the smoking to stop before removing the pot.
