You can, but you have to be very careful about how you place it.
- You may line the basket with foil, but never cover the crisper plate. The plate must remain exposed for air circulation.
- If you're using parchment paper or foil under food, you must always have food on top to weigh it down. Air flow can lift lightweight materials up to touch the heating coil, which is a fire hazard.
- Never place paper, cardboard, or non-heat-resistant plastic in the basket.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: For easier cleanup without foil, remember the basket and crisper plate are dishwasher safe. Soak in hot, soapy water if needed.
HEADS UP: Never use metal utensils or abrasive scouring pads on the nonstick coating. For stubborn grease, a paste of baking soda and water can be very effective.
