Diagnosis
Your standard Hawkins 2 Litre Classic pressure cooker (model CL20) is not suitable for induction stoves. Induction cooktops require cookware with a magnetic base to generate heat, and the standard Classic line is designed primarily for gas and electric coil stoves.
How to Fix It
To determine compatibility, inspect the base of your cooker for a model code.
- Locate the embossed or printed model number on the bottom of the pot.
- If the code begins with "ICL" (e.g., ICL20), it is part of the 'Hawkins Classic Induction Compatible' line and will work.
- If the code is "CL20" (the standard 2-litre model), it is not induction-compatible.
If That Didn't Work
If you have a CL20 model but wish to use it on induction, you can purchase a separate induction interface disc (a magnetic metal plate that sits between the stove and cooker). However, this can reduce heating efficiency and may affect pressure performance. The better long-term solution is to purchase a dedicated Hawkins induction-compatible model.
Heads Up
Never use a non-compatible pressure cooker on an induction hob, as it will not heat at all. Forcing it or using an interface disc requires careful monitoring to ensure proper pressure buildup and safety.
