epson ecotank et-2800 making a loud grinding noise when it scans, is it broken?

— asked by Jordan

No. That's the scanner carriage moving. It's normal operation.

The rated sound level during operation is 52 dB(A). A grinding or whirring noise is typical for the CIS photo sensor moving across the scan bed. Ensure the document or photo is lying flat and nothing is obstructing the glass. The scanner bed max size is 8.5" x 11.7". Don't try to scan anything larger.

If the noise is truly excessive or there's a clicking sound: Power off the printer and check for any small debris, paper clips, or torn pieces of paper on the glass or in the track. Gently wipe the glass with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Heads up: The printer has a 2-year limited warranty with registration. Unusual mechanical failure would be covered.
