Diagnosis
This is almost always a pre-heat issue. The machine brews at the correct temp (~200°F), but a cold brewer and cold carafe will absorb that heat instantly.
How to Fix It
Pre-heat everything. Before brewing, run a full cycle of plain water through the machine into your carafe. Dump that hot water, then immediately brew your coffee with fresh water. Also, fill the carafe with hot tap water while you grind beans.
If That Didn't Work
Check that the brew basket arm is fully clicked into the "closed" position over the carafe. If it's slightly open, heat escapes during brewing. You should feel a firm click.
Heads Up
Never brew with the lid of the carafe off—it's a massive heat loss. The thermal carafe is excellent at retaining heat, but only if sealed.
