Quick answer: DIAGNOSIS: The issue is either the light socket itself (corroded or lost spring contact) or the door-activated switch that turns the light on/off has failed.

DIAGNOSIS: The issue is either the light socket itself (corroded or lost spring contact) or the door-activated switch that turns the light on/off has failed.

FIX:

  • Unplug the range. Remove the oven light bulb.
  • Inspect the socket for dark discoloration, melted plastic, or a pushed-in contact tab at the bottom. If corroded or damaged, the socket needs replacement.
  • If the socket looks fine, the problem is likely the oven light switch. This is a small push-button switch mounted inside the frame that the door presses.
  • Access requires removing the inner door panel and possibly the control panel. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter when pressed.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: The wiring from the switch or socket back to the main control board could be damaged, but this is rare. A control board failure affecting just the light is also possible but unlikely.

HEADS UP: Use only the recommended appliance bulb wattage (usually 40W). Higher wattage bulbs can overheat and melt the socket, causing this failure.
