Diagnosis
The hot plate has an auto-shutoff for safety. On the Select model, this is controlled by the carafe's presence and its temperature. If it's turning off, the sensor isn't detecting the carafe properly.
How to Fix It
First, ensure the carafe is seated perfectly straight and fully on the hot plate. Clean the hot plate surface and the bottom of the carafe with a damp cloth—any residue can insulate and fool the sensor. This fixes it 90% of the time.
If That Didn't Work
The issue could be the thermal fuse on the hot plate circuit. This requires disassembly and a multimeter check. If the fuse is blown, the hot plate circuit is dead and needs a service technician.
Heads Up
The hot plate is designed to keep coffee at serving temperature, not to reheat cold coffee. Leaving an empty carafe on it will trigger shutoff faster.
