Diagnosis
The HP Smart app requires a specific combination of permissions and network states to "handshake" with the OfficeJet Pro 9015e. If the app cannot find the printer, it is usually due to restricted iOS permissions (Location Services), a VPN blocking local network discovery, or the printer's setup mode having timed out, which prevents it from broadcasting its temporary setup signal.
How to Fix It
Follow these steps to establish a connection:
- Enable Permissions: Go to iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and ensure it is toggled ON. Then, scroll down to the HP Smart app and set location access to "While Using the App."
- Verify Network: Ensure your iPhone is connected to a 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network. If you are using a VPN or a third-party firewall app, disable it completely, as these mask your device's IP and block local discovery.
- Proximity: Move your iPhone within 5 feet of the printer during the initial pairing process to ensure the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signal is strong enough to initiate the setup.
- Relaunch: Force-close the HP Smart app and restart it to refresh the search parameters.
If That Didn't Work
If the printer is still not appearing, the printer's internal setup mode has likely expired. You must manually reset the network broadcast:
- On the printer's control panel, swipe down the dashboard and tap the Gear (Settings) icon.
- Navigate to Network Setup > Restore Network Settings. Confirm by tapping Yes.
- The Wi-Fi light should begin blinking, indicating it is back in "Setup Mode."
- Restart the HP Smart app and attempt the "Add Printer" process again.
Heads Up
Ensure your router is not set to "AP Isolation" or "Guest Mode," as these settings prevent wireless devices from communicating with each other even if they are on the same network.
