ice maker making a loud grinding noise when it drops ice into the basket, sounds like it's chewing plastic

— asked by Sam

DIAGNOSIS The plastic ice scoop (the arm that pushes ice into the basket) is hitting the sides because the ice basket is overfilled or misaligned.

FIX First, empty the ice basket completely. Ensure it's seated perfectly level and pushed all the way back into its slot. Do not fill the basket past the MAX line. The noise should stop immediately.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Inspect the clear plastic scoop arm inside the ice bin for cracks or warping. If it's damaged, it can scrape against the housing. You'd need to contact homelabs support for a replacement part.

HEADS UP Overfilling is the #1 cause of this. The machine needs empty space in the basket to drop ice cleanly. Keep it below 3/4 full for quiet operation.
