Diagnosis
This is almost always a water flow or temperature problem. The ice molds aren't getting filled properly, or the water is too warm when it enters the freezing cycle.
How to Fix It
Start with water temperature. The unit needs cold input water, ideally below 70°F. Use chilled water from the fridge, not room-temp tap. Next, check the water pump's output. Listen for a distinct 'click-hum' every few minutes during the cycle—that's the pump injecting water. If it's silent, the pump or its filter might be clogged with scale.
If That Didn't Work
The ambient room temperature is too high. These machines need a well-ventilated spot away from ovens or direct sun. If the room is above 80°F, thin ice is inevitable. Move it to a cooler location.
Heads Up
Mineral-heavy water will accelerate this issue. A quick descale cycle with vinegar can clear internal water channels, but for chronic thin ice, use filtered or distilled water.
