In this specific model, the "Green" light typically signals the unit is ready or running; when it flashes in tandem with a shutdown, it is triggering a protective overheat cycle to prevent the compressor from burning out. This happens because the IM-02 uses a compact refrigerant system that generates significant heat. If the heat exchange process is hindered—either by dust buildup in the rear condenser coils or by placing the unit in a confined space (like under a low cabinet)—the refrigerant cannot cool down. The system runs for approximately 10 minutes, fails to reach the required temperature threshold for ice formation, and the thermal overload switch trips, cutting power to the compressor to prevent permanent hardware failure.
How to Fix It
To resolve this thermal trip and reset the logic board, follow these precise steps:
- Power down the unit by pressing the Power button and unplugging it from the wall outlet immediately. This clears the temporary memory of the error state.
- Move the unit to an open area. Ensure there is a minimum of 6 inches (15cm) of open air space behind the rear ventilation grille and at least 4 inches on the sides.
- Inspect the rear ventilation grille. Use a vacuum cleaner with a narrow crevice tool or a can of compressed air to remove all lint, pet hair, and dust from the fins. If the fins are clogged, the compressor cannot dump heat, leading to the 10-minute shutdown loop.
- Empty the ice basket and wipe the interior walls of the freezing chamber with a damp cloth to remove any mineral scale that might be insulating the evaporator.
- Allow the unit to sit unplugged for at least 45 to 60 minutes. This is critical to allow the compressor oil and refrigerant to stabilize and the thermal switch to reset.
- Refill the reservoir with fresh, filtered water (avoid using overly hot water, as this adds to the initial heat load).
- Plug the unit back in and press the "Start/Stop" button. The green light should remain solid as the cooling cycle begins.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for Low Refrigerant/Leak: If the unit runs for 10 minutes, the fan is spinning, and the air around the vents is cool rather than warm, you likely have a refrigerant leak. Since the IM-02 is a sealed system, this is not field-repairable. If the evaporator plate doesn't feel freezing to the touch after 5 minutes of operation, the gas has escaped.
- Sensor Calibration Error: Occasionally, the internal temperature probe (thermistor) fails. Try unplugging the unit and letting it defrost completely for 24 hours. This can sometimes "reset" a stuck sensor that is falsely reporting an overheat condition.
- Power Surge/Voltage Drop: If the unit is plugged into a crowded power strip or an extension cord, the compressor may not be getting the full voltage required to start, causing it to draw excessive current and overheat. Plug the IM-02 directly into a grounded 120V wall outlet.
- Water Mineral Buildup: If you have hard water, calcium deposits can form on the cooling pins. Run a cleaning cycle using a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water. Let it soak for 30 minutes, then drain and rinse. This improves the thermal conductivity of the evaporator.

- Never place the IM-02 inside a cupboard or a tight enclosure while operating; the heat exhaust will recirculate, triggering the flashing green light error within minutes.
- Use distilled or filtered water to prevent the "sludging" of the internal pumps and sensors, which can lead to erratic cycling.
- Avoid opening the lid frequently during the first 20 minutes of a cycle, as the influx of warm air forces the compressor to work harder and increases the risk of thermal shutdown.
- Clean the rear vents once a month with a vacuum to maintain the efficiency of the heat exchange system.
