The jarring, clattering noise you hear during the "drop" phase of the Euhomy IM-02 is typically caused by ice adhesion. In a healthy cycle, the cooling pins release the bullet-shaped cubes smoothly as the heating element triggers the harvest. When mineral buildup (scale) or biofilm accumulates on the evaporator pins, the ice bonds too tightly to the metal. Instead of sliding off, the cubes "snap" or "crack" away from the pins under the force of the ejector arm, creating a loud banging sound that feels like the internal components are colliding.
This is often exacerbated by using hard water, where calcium and magnesium deposits create a rough surface on the aluminum pins. You can confirm this by inspecting the evaporator plate after a cycle; if you see white, chalky residue or a cloudy film on the metal pins, the ice is sticking to these deposits rather than releasing cleanly. If the noise is accompanied by "clumped" ice or irregularly shaped cubes, it is a definitive sign that the surface tension of the pins has been compromised by scale.
How to Fix It
To resolve this, you must perform a deep chemical descale to strip the mineral deposits from the evaporator pins. Do not use generic cleaning tablets, as they often do not dissolve fully enough to reach the internal pin assembly.
- Empty the ice basket and drain all remaining water from the reservoir to ensure you are starting with a fresh volume.
- Prepare a descaling solution using a 50/50 ratio of distilled white vinegar and warm filtered water. For the IM-02, fill the reservoir to the "MAX" line (approximately 1.5 liters) with this mixture.
- Press the "Clean" button. If your specific sub-model does not have a dedicated clean button, initiate a standard ice-making cycle.
- Allow the machine to run for at least three full harvest cycles. This ensures the vinegar solution circulates through the pump and dwells on the evaporator pins long enough to dissolve the calcium carbonate.
- After the third cycle, drain the reservoir completely. Use a damp, lint-free microfiber cloth to wipe out the interior of the ice basket and the area around the cooling pins.
- Fill the reservoir with fresh, filtered water and run two "flush" cycles. Discard this ice to ensure no vinegar taste remains in the final product.
If That Didn't Work
- Check the Ice Scoop Alignment: Ensure the plastic ice basket is seated perfectly flush against the chassis. If the basket is slightly skewed, the ice cubes hit the plastic wall at an angle, amplifying the sound of the drop. Remove the basket and re-insert it firmly.
- Adjust Surface Stability: The IM-02 is prone to vibration amplification. If the unit is sitting on a hollow countertop or a thin plastic tray, the "thump" of the ice drop resonates through the furniture. Place a thick silicone drying mat or a rubberized appliance pad under the unit to dampen the acoustic vibration.
- Inspect for Obstructions: Use a flashlight to look inside the ice chute. Occasionally, a small piece of plastic packaging or a stray mineral chunk can get lodged in the guide rails, causing the ice to deflect and hit the side walls violently. Use a pipe cleaner or a soft brush to clear any debris from the drop zone.
- Temperature Calibration: If you are using extremely cold water, the ice can form too rapidly and bond too aggressively. Try using room-temperature filtered water to see if the "snap" sound diminishes during the harvest phase.

- Avoid Dish Soap: Never use dish detergent or abrasive scrubbers on the evaporator pins; scratching the aluminum surface creates "anchor points" for ice, which will actually increase the noise over time.
- Filter Your Water: To prevent the return of the banging noise, use a Brita-style filter or distilled water. Hard water is the primary enemy of the IM-02's longevity.
- Monthly Maintenance: Perform the vinegar descale once every 30 days if you live in a hard-water area. Waiting until the machine sounds like it's "breaking" means the scale is already significant.
- Avoid Overfilling: Do not force the ice basket in when it is overflowing. This puts pressure on the ejector arm, which can bend the mechanism and lead to permanent mechanical noise during the drop.
