it smells like burning plastic the first few times i use it, even after doing the empty burn-in cycle, is that safe?

DIAGNOSIS That's normal for the first 2-3 full-heat cycles. It's manufacturing oils, adhesives, or minor dust on the heating element and internal components burning off—not the plastic housing itself.

FIX Run the unit empty at 400°F for 20 minutes in a well-ventilated area (open windows, turn on hood fan). The smell should significantly diminish each time. After this, cook something with a strong, pleasant odor like lemon slices or bread to help mask any residual scent.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the plastic smell persists beyond 3 cycles or is accompanied by visible smoke or melting, immediately unplug. Check for and remove any non-removable plastic shipping film or protective stickers you might have missed, especially on the heating element area inside.

HEADS UP Never leave the room during these initial burn-off cycles. If it's actual plastic burning (acrid, thick smoke), there could be a faulty component. In that case, stop use and contact support.
