Yes, you need to descale. Scale buildup from minerals in your water hinders performance, causing odd sounds and partial brews.
- Descale every 3-6 months, or more often if you have hard water.
- You need Keurig Descaling Solution, a large ceramic mug, fresh water, and a sink. Allow 45 minutes.
PROCEDURE:
- Cleansing Rinse: Turn on brewer. Pour 4.6oz of descaling solution into reservoir, add fresh water to the 10oz line. Place mug on drip tray. Lift/lower handle (no pod). Press brew button. Pour dispensed solution into sink.
- Internal Tank Soak: Repeat step 1, but when brew light turns solid, press the power button to stop dispensing. Let brewer stand for 30 minutes. Then press/hold brew button until all solution dispenses. Pour out.
- Fresh Water Rinse: Repeat step 1 using 12oz of fresh water only (no solution). Do this three total times. Do extra rinses if you notice residual taste.
NOTE: Foam during descaling is normal. If the brewer doesn't fill properly after adding solution, turn it off, unplug, discard solution, rinse reservoir, refill with water, plug in, and repeat the rinse cycles.
