A blinking red light on a child node means it's too far from the parent node or the parent is unplugged. The wireless connection is dropping.
Here's what you should do, step by step:
- First, check your parent node. Make sure it's plugged into your modem and powered on. Its light should be solid blue (connected).
- Move the child node closer to the parent node. Try placing it in the same room temporarily to see if the connection stabilizes and the light changes.
- If a wired connection is possible, you can use an Ethernet cable. Connect one end to any Ethernet port on the child node and the other end to an Ethernet port on the parent node. This creates a more reliable backhaul.
If that didn't work, the issue might be interference. In the Linksys app, go to Advanced Settings and run Channel Finder. It will search for the most open Wi-Fi channels in your area to give your system the best performance.
For a permanent fix, find a location for the child node that's within a clear line of sight, or with only one wall between it and the parent node. Thick walls and large metal appliances can block the signal.
