my chefman air fryer with the windows is smoking a lot on the first use, is it broken?

— asked by Alex

Yeah, this one's common. A slight odor and some smoke during initial use is normal and should dissipate after a few cycles. It's usually manufacturing residues burning off.

Fix: Let it complete its cycle in a well-ventilated area. The smoke should stop and not return after this first or second use.

If that didn't work: If you see white smoke after the break-in period, it's a sign of excess fat. Avoid cooking very fatty foods. More importantly, make sure the baskets, racks, and the interior are completely clean before your next cook. Built-up grease causes smoke.

Heads up: Never fill the baskets with oil. If you use oil, toss food with a little in a separate bowl first. And don't use aerosol cooking sprays—they can damage the nonstick coating and also contribute to smoking.
