DIAGNOSIS This happens when the evaporator coil temperature drops below freezing, usually because the air filter is dirty or the room is too cold.
FIX
- Turn the unit off and unplug it. Let the ice melt completely.
- Remove and thoroughly clean the foam air filter (behind the front grille). Let it dry.
- Ensure the room temperature is above 65°F.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK A faulty thermostat or sensor can cause the compressor to run too long. If cleaning and warm temps don't solve it, a component has likely failed.
HEADS UP Never chip away at the ice with a tool. You will puncture the coils and ruin the unit. Let it thaw naturally.
