Diagnosis
The flashing water tank light on your De'Longhi Magnifica S indicates the machine's internal sensor is not detecting the tank, even though it's physically full. This is almost always caused by an improper physical connection between the tank and the machine's base, or a minor sensor obstruction.
How to Fix It
- Turn the machine off at the power button and unplug it for safety.
- Remove the water tank completely. Check that the water level is between the MIN and MAX lines; overfilling can cause issues.
- Inspect the tank's base and the machine's tank slot. Look for and remove any mineral scale deposits, coffee grounds, or small debris.
- If you use a water softener filter (like the De'Longhi AquaClean), ensure it is correctly clicked into position in the tank and hasn't shifted.
- Re-insert the tank firmly straight down into the slot until you hear a definitive click, ensuring it is perfectly level and fully seated.
- Plug the machine back in and turn it on. The light should stop flashing after a few seconds as the system reinitializes.
If That Didn't Work
If the light continues to flash, the float sensor inside the machine's tank housing may be stuck or the electrical contacts may be faulty. Unplug the machine again. Using a flashlight, look into the empty tank slot for a small, typically white, plastic float. Gently use a dry cotton swab to see if you can move it up and down freely; it should spring back. If it's stuck or if you see any visible damage to the contacts, or if the problem persists, the internal sensor assembly likely requires professional service. Always use the machine's power button to turn it off before removing the water tank. Yanking the tank out while the machine is powered on can cause an electrical fault or damage the sensor contacts.
