Diagnosis
Persistent paper jams from the main cassette on your Epson WF-2860 are almost always caused by degraded or dirty pickup and separation rollers. Over time, these rubber rollers lose grip and collect dust or paper debris, causing them to slip or misfeed pages.
How to Fix It
A thorough cleaning of the internal rollers is required. Follow these steps carefully:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from power. Disconnect any other cables.
- Remove all paper from the rear and front cassettes. Fully slide out the front paper cassette.
- Important: Gently lay the printer on its right side (as you face it) on a soft, stable surface.
- Locate the two sets of rubber rollers inside the empty cassette bay. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to wipe the rollers. Manually rotate each roller to clean its entire surface. Never use alcohol or harsh cleaners.
- While on its side, also check for and remove any small scraps of torn paper inside the paper path.
- Carefully return the printer to its upright position. Do not leave it on its side, as this can cause ink to leak into the print head.
- Reinsert the paper cassette, fan and neatly reload the stack of paper, ensuring the guides are snug. Reconnect power and turn the printer on.
If That Didn't Work
If jams continue, the rollers may be worn out and need replacement. Also, ensure you are using standard 75-80 gsm paper that is not curled, damp, or damaged. Try adjusting the paper guide in the cassette more firmly, as loose paper can cause misalignment. Finally, perform a printer reset by turning it off, unplugging it for 2 full minutes, then restarting.
Heads Up
Always handle the printer gently when tilting it. Avoid touching internal electronics or the print head. If you see significant ink leakage after returning it upright, power down immediately and contact Epson support.
