Diagnosis
Your KitchenAid K400 blender is functioning as designed by entering an auto-stop state. To prevent motor overheating, this model has a built-in timer that automatically stops the blending action after approximately 3 minutes when operating on variable speeds 1 through 5. It will also stop automatically after completing any pre-programmed recipe cycle.
How to Fix It
This is a normal operation. To restart the blender, follow these steps:
- Press the "Stop" button to reset the blender's control system.
- If you wish to continue blending, simply select your desired speed or program again. The motor has a built-in cool-down period; if you try to restart it immediately, you may need to wait about 30 seconds for it to respond.
- For future use, plan longer blending tasks in intervals under 3 minutes, using the stop button between sessions.
If That Didn't Work
If pressing the stop button and reselecting a speed does not restore function, the issue is likely a safety interlock. Unplug the blender, then remove the jar from the base. Inspect the jar pad and the bottom of the jar for food debris. When replacing the jar, ensure the handle is aligned directly facing the control panel and that the jar is fully seated and twisted clockwise into the locked position on the jar pad. A misaligned jar will prevent the blender from starting at all. Plug the unit back in and try again.
Heads Up
Always unplug the blender from the wall outlet before handling the jar, lid, or blade assembly to eliminate any risk of accidental activation. Allow the blades to come to a complete stop before removing the lid to avoid injury.
