my newair ai-215ss keeps flashing 'E1' and won't make ice, what's wrong?

— asked by Casey

DIAGNOSIS The E1 error code indicates a water supply issue. The machine is not detecting a sufficient water level in the reservoir.

FIX First, ensure the external water bottle is properly seated on the intake valve. Confirm the bottle is more than half full. Power the unit off, then back on. If E1 persists, remove and re-seat the internal water reservoir. Listen for the pump to engage and fill.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The water inlet valve may be clogged with mineral deposits. Disconnect the unit, remove the external bottle, and use a small brush or a paperclip to gently clear the intake valve opening. Run a cleaning cycle with distilled white vinegar.

HEADS UP Do not use the unit without water. Operating with an E1 error can damage the pump. Always use the recommended food-grade silicone tubing if using an external water source.
