When the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra beeps while stationary on the dock, it is typically signaling a "Critical System Fault" related to the fluid management system or a physical obstruction that prevents the drive wheels from engaging. The most common cause is a failure in the water pump cycle; if the robot attempts to prime the mop but detects an air lock or an empty clean water tank, it will trigger a series of beeps and a voice alert (such as "Please refill the water tank") to prevent the pump from running dry and burning out.
Another frequent cause is a "Docking Connection Error." This happens when the charging pins on the bottom of the robot are contaminated with grime or the robot has shifted slightly off-center, preventing the electrical handshake required to initiate a cleaning cycle. If the robot beeps and refuses to move, it is often because the internal sensors detect that the mop module is not properly seated or the dirty water tank is full, triggering a safety lockout to prevent water overflow during the pre-wash phase.
How to Fix It
Follow these precise steps to resolve the docking lockout:
- Water Tank Reset: Remove the clean water tank. Ensure the rubber gasket at the bottom is seated flush and not pinched. Refill the tank to the "Max" line using only distilled water or the official Roborock cleaning solution. Firmly press the tank down until you hear a distinct click; if it isn't fully seated, the float sensor won't trigger, and the robot will beep.
- Dirty Water Purge: Remove the dirty water tank. If the tank is full, empty it and rinse the float sensor (the small plastic piece inside the tank) to ensure it isn't stuck in the "up" position due to slime or debris.
- Contact Cleaning: Use a dry microfiber cloth or a cotton swab dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the two silver charging plates on the bottom of the S8 Pro Ultra and the corresponding spring-loaded pins on the Ultra Dock. Even a thin layer of dust can cause a communication error.
- Physical Obstruction Check: Gently pull the robot 2 inches forward off the dock manually. Inspect the main rubber brush roll and the side brush for tangled hair or trapped objects (like a coin or small toy) that might be creating resistance.
- Hard Reboot: Press and hold the Power button on the top of the robot for 10 seconds until the lights flash, then place it back on the dock and attempt to start the clean cycle via the Roborock app.
If That Didn't Work
- Check the Docking Tray: Inspect the bottom of the Ultra Dock (the area where the robot sits). If there is a buildup of stagnant water or thick detergent residue, the robot may detect a "water leakage" error. Use a damp cloth to wipe the tray completely dry and clear any debris from the drainage grate.
- Mop Module Reseating: Remove the mop cloth and the mop bracket entirely. Reinsert the bracket firmly. If the bracket is skewed, the robot's internal sensors will prevent it from leaving the dock to avoid scratching your floors with a loose module.
- App-Based Error Log: Open the Roborock app and check the "Notifications" tab. Look for specific error codes like "Error 1" (Lidar failure) or "Error 10" (Water tank issue). If you see a Lidar error, use a can of compressed air to blow out the laser turret on top of the robot to remove dust.
- Power Cycle the Dock: Unplug the Ultra Dock from the wall outlet for 60 seconds. This resets the internal logic board of the station, which can clear "ghost" errors where the dock thinks the water tank is empty when it is actually full.

- Avoid Third-Party Detergents: Never use bleach or foaming dish soap in the clean water tank. These create air bubbles in the lines, leading to the "empty tank" beeping even when the tank is full.
- Weekly Tray Maintenance: Once a week, remove the robot and wipe the dock's base plate. Accumulated grime here can interfere with the robot's ability to align itself perfectly for charging.
- Tank Venting: When inserting the dirty water tank, ensure the small rubber vent valve is clear. If the valve is blocked, a vacuum forms, preventing the dock from suctioning water out of the robot.
- Firmware Updates: Ensure your robot is on the latest firmware version via the app; Roborock frequently releases patches to reduce "false positive" water sensor alerts.
