my shark vertex duo just keeps flashing a red light and won’t start, what’s that about?

— asked by Casey

DIAGNOSIS The steady red LED indicates a clog or airflow restriction. The vacuum's sensor has detected insufficient suction to operate the brushroll.

FIX Perform a full clog check. Power off and unplug. 1. Empty the dust cup. 2. Remove and check the filter—rinse if needed, dry 24 hours. 3. Detach the hose from the pod and check both ends for debris. 4. Remove the pod from the floor nozzle and check the path to the dust cup. Clear any blockage.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The issue may be the brushroll itself. Remove the floor nozzle, flip it over, and clear any hair or string wound around the brushroll ends. Manually spin it to ensure it turns freely.

HEADS UP The filter must be bone-dry before reinsertion. A damp filter will trigger the red light immediately.
