Diagnosis
The continuous steam release indicates the pressure cooker is failing to achieve a seal. On the T-fal Clipso, this is almost always caused by one of three issues: a misaligned or degraded sealing ring (the silicone gasket), an improperly locked lid, or food debris blocking the sealing surfaces.
How to Fix It
- Turn off the heat and release all pressure manually via the quick-release valve. Never force the lid open.
- Remove the lid and inspect the black silicone sealing ring. Ensure it is fully seated in its dedicated groove around the underside of the lid, with no twists or folds.
- Clean the sealing ring's groove and the rim of the pot where it contacts the ring. Even a small piece of food can prevent a seal.
- Reassemble. Align the arrow on the lid handle precisely with the unlock symbol on the pot handle. Turn the lid clockwise until the arrow aligns with the lock symbol and you hear/feel a distinct click.
- Try pressurizing again with just 2 cups of water to test the seal before cooking food.
If That Didn't Work
Your sealing ring may be worn out, hardened, or cracked, losing its elasticity. Remove it, wash it, and let it dry completely before reinserting it. If it remains misshapen or brittle, it needs replacement. Also, check that the steam release valve on the lid is fully in the "closed" or pressurizing position (usually marked by a line or dot). Ensure the float valve (the red pin) moves freely and isn't stuck in the up position.
Heads Up
Always start with cold liquid (as per the minimum fill line) and use medium heat to bring the pot to pressure. High heat can force steam and food particles past the seal prematurely. Never overfill the pot, especially with starchy foods like beans or rice, which can foam and clog the valves.
