my vitamix e310 keeps stopping after like a minute when i'm making nut butter, is it broken?

— asked by Sam

Yeah, this one's common. It's not broken—the motor is overheating and shutting itself off to protect the internal components. Nut butters and oil-based foods generate a lot of heat and friction.

The fix is strict timing. Do not process for more than one minute after the mixture starts to circulate smoothly in the container. If you go longer, it will overheat.

If that didn't work, check your technique:

  • You must use the tamper for thick mixtures like this. The container should not be more than two-thirds full when using it.
  • Don't use the tamper for more than 30 seconds straight. Pulse it in and out.
  • Make sure you start on Variable Speed 1 and increase slowly.

Heads up: If the motor does overheat and won't start, unplug it and let it cool for 20-45 minutes before trying again.
