robot says 'charging error 8' and won't dock properly with the clean base.

— asked by Riley

DIAGNOSIS Error 8 indicates a communication failure between the robot and the Clean Base. The metal charging contacts on either the robot or base are dirty or misaligned.

FIX Power off and unplug the Clean Base. Clean the three metal charging contacts on the front of the base with a dry cloth. Clean the corresponding contacts on the rear bumper of the robot. Ensure the base is on a hard, level surface with 1.5 feet of clearance on each side and 5 feet in front.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Check the physical alignment. The robot's bumper should make light contact with the base during docking. If the base is on a thick rug or is tilted, the contacts cannot meet. Relocate the base to a hard floor.

HEADS UP Using aftermarket accessories like bumper skins or thick protective stickers can physically prevent the contacts from touching, causing Error 8.
