the brushroll on my vertex just stopped spinning on carpet, works fine on hard floors though.

DIAGNOSIS This is the designed ‘Carpet Detect’ mode. The brushroll disengages on hard floors to prevent scattering debris. On carpets, it should auto-engage.

FIX First, ensure you are using the correct setting. Switch the floor nozzle’s manual dial from ‘Hard Floor’ to ‘Carpet’. On ‘Carpet’ mode, the brushroll should spin. Test on a medium-pile carpet.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The auto-engage mechanism may be jammed. Power off. Flip the floor nozzle and manually rotate the brushroll while moving the ‘Carpet/Hard Floor’ slider. Listen for a click as it re-engages. Clear any debris around the slider.

HEADS UP On very low-pile rugs or certain surfaces, the vacuum may misread it as hard floor. Use ‘Carpet’ setting for these.
