DIAGNOSIS Total loss of power points to the household outlet, the power cord, the door being open, or a blown thermal fuse on the main control board.
FIX First, check the obvious: is the lid fully closed? Is the power cord firmly plugged into a working outlet? Test the outlet with another appliance. Next, check the household circuit breaker or GFCI outlet the washer is plugged into—reset it. If that's all good, unplug the washer for 2 full minutes, then plug it back in. This can sometimes reset the control board.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK There's a thermal fuse (often called a TOC fuse) on the control board that blows if the motor overheats. If that's blown, the board gets no power. Testing or replacing this requires opening the console and some basic multimeter skills, or replacing the whole main control board.
HEADS UP Before you start taking things apart, make absolutely sure you haven't plugged the washer into a switched outlet that's turned off. It happens more than you'd think.
