Diagnosis

This issue is often exacerbated by using the "Gold" filter setting with very fine grinds or by allowing the machine to sit for several days after a brew without a rinse. To confirm this is the cause, look at the rim of the basket; if you see a dark, tacky ring of residue where the plastic meets the brew head, the oils have bonded the components. If the basket feels "springy" but won't budge, it is likely a vacuum lock caused by the gasket suction; if it feels completely rigid, it is chemical bonding from the oils.

How to Fix It

To safely extract the basket without snapping the plastic housing or damaging the internal seals, follow these precise steps:

1. Power off the machine and unplug it from the wall outlet to ensure safety while working near the heating element.
2. If the machine was recently used, allow it to cool for 10 minutes. If the machine is cold and the basket is stuck, pour about 200ml of very hot (not boiling) water directly over the rim of the basket to soften the hardened coffee oils.
