the laser on my detect won't turn on anymore, just the regular led light works. did it burn out?

— asked by Jamie

DIAGNOSIS The green laser diode on the cleaner head isn't activating. This is usually a simple power/connection issue, not a burned-out laser.

FIX Check the connection between the cleaner head and the main body.

  • Detach the cleaner head completely.
  • Look at the electrical contacts on both the head and the vacuum's neck. Wipe them clean with a dry cloth to remove any dust or debris.
  • Firmly reattach the head until you hear a solid click on both sides.
  • Turn on the vacuum. The laser should activate immediately when the motor spins.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The issue might be with the specific cleaner head unit. Try attaching a different Dyson tool (if you have one) to confirm the vacuum body sends power. If other tools work, the laser head itself may have a fault and needs service.

HEADS UP The laser is only designed to work with the specific laser slim fluffy cleaner head. It won't activate with the other included tools, like the crevice tool or combination nozzle.
