the red fault light on my honda eu2200i is flashing once every two seconds. what does that mean?

— asked by Carlos

The FAULT/CO SENSOR LIFE indicator is flashing a specific pattern. A flash once every two seconds indicates the CO-MINDER carbon monoxide sensor is near the end of its useful lifespan.

Diagnosis: The CO-MINDER sensor has approximately six months or less of operational life remaining. This estimate includes both generator running time and storage periods.

Action Required: The sensor will eventually need replacement. You should contact an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer for CO-MINDER replacement service. Do not modify the CO-MINDER system.

Other Flash Patterns:

  • If the indicator flashes once every four seconds, the sensor has approximately six months to one year of life remaining.
  • If the engine stops and this indicator flashes for about five minutes, it may signal a system malfunction. Press the CO-MINDER reset button. If the fault recurs, consult a dealer.

HEADS UP: A depleted or malfunctioning CO-MINDER cannot warn you of high carbon monoxide levels. Continue to follow all safety protocols for generator placement and ventilation.
