Unlike a flashing light, which often indicates a simple pairing or low battery state, a solid red light typically means the device is in a "locked" state due to a physical obstruction or a power-delivery failure. The most common cause is a failure in the sensor loop. The B1 utilizes a micro-switch to detect if the label roll is seated correctly and if the cover is fully snapped shut. If the label roll is slightly skewed or if there is a piece of adhesive residue on the sensor, the machine assumes the cover is open. Additionally, a solid red light can occur when the battery voltage drops below the threshold required to drive the thermal head, even if the device still has enough power to light the LED. You can confirm this by attempting to print a test label; if the app displays "Printer Offline" or "Cover Open" while the light remains solid, it is a physical sensor issue.
How to Fix It
Follow these precise steps to clear the error and reset the sensor loop:
- Inspect the Label Seating: Open the top cover and remove the label roll entirely. Check the spindle for any stuck adhesive or debris. Re-insert the roll, ensuring the labels are facing downward and the roll is pushed firmly against the back of the compartment.
- Verify the Cover Latch: Close the cover and apply firm pressure to the center of the lid until you hear a distinct click. The B1 cover must be flush against the chassis; if there is even a 1mm gap, the sensor will trigger the red light.
- Perform a Hard Power Reset: Press and hold the power button for a full 10 seconds. This clears the temporary cache and forces the device to re-poll the sensors.
- Calibrate the Paper: Once the light turns off or changes color, open the NIIMBOT app on your smartphone. Navigate to Settings > Printer Settings > Paper Calibration. This ensures the sensor recognizes the gap between labels.
- Check the Charging State: Plug the device into a 5V/2A wall adapter (avoid using a computer USB port for this step). Let it charge for 30 minutes. If the red light turns off only when plugged in, your battery has fallen below the operational voltage.
If That Didn't Work
- Clean the Thermal Head and Sensor: Use a cotton swab dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the thermal print head (the thin black strip) and the small optical sensor located near the paper path. Dust or adhesive buildup on the sensor can trick the machine into thinking the paper is jammed or missing.
- Check for Label Compatibility: Ensure you are using genuine NIIMBOT B1 compatible labels. If you are using third-party labels that are too thick or have a different backing material, the sensor may fail to detect the "gap" between labels, causing a solid red error light.
- Update the Firmware: Connect the B1 to your app via Bluetooth. If a firmware update is available (usually indicated by a red dot in the device settings), install it immediately. Firmware bugs in early B1 models occasionally caused false "Cover Open" errors.
- Reset the Bluetooth Bond: Delete the B1 from your phone's Bluetooth paired devices list, restart the phone, and re-pair the device through the NIIMBOT app rather than the phone's system settings.
