DIAGNOSIS The silicone sealing ring is porous and absorbs food odors, especially from pungent ingredients like curry, garlic, or seafood. Standard washing does not remove embedded smells.
FIX 1. Remove the ring from the lid. 2. Wash it in hot, soapy water. 3. Use one of these odor-removal methods: Place it on the top rack of a dishwasher cycle. Soak it for 30 minutes in a 50/50 vinegar-water solution. Bake it in an oven at 250°F for 20 minutes. 4. Let it air-dry completely before reinstalling.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Odors may be permanently embedded. Purchase a replacement sealing ring (official Instant Pot part). Consider designating one ring for savory foods and a separate, new ring for desserts or yogurt.
HEADS UP Always ensure the sealing ring is fully seated in its groove in the lid before cooking. A loose or twisted ring will cause pressure loss and may trigger a Burn error.
