Diagnosis
The connectivity failure between the Nespresso VertuoPlus and the mobile app typically stems from a "handshake" timeout. The Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) module inside the De'Longhi-manufactured chassis is designed to enter a low-power sleep state quickly to avoid draining the internal capacitors. If the machine is not explicitly triggered into "Pairing Mode," it remains invisible to the phone's discovery scan, even if the machine is powered on and ready to brew.
Furthermore, interference from 2.4GHz signals (like microwave ovens or older Wi-Fi routers) can disrupt the initial pairing sequence. In many cases, the machine's internal network cache becomes cluttered with previous failed attempts, creating a software deadlock where the machine believes it is already attempting a connection, thus ignoring new requests from the app. You can confirm this if the light on the brew button is solid white rather than pulsing rapidly during the search phase.
How to Fix It
To force a hard reset of the Bluetooth module and establish a clean pairing link, follow these exact steps:
- Power down the machine completely by unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet. Leave it disconnected for at least 60 seconds to allow the internal capacitors to fully discharge.
- While the machine is unplugged, go to your smartphone's system settings (not the Nespresso app) and go to Bluetooth. Find any existing "VertuoPlus" or "Nespresso" entries and select "Forget This Device" or "Unpair."
- Plug the machine back into the wall outlet. Do not press the brew button yet.
- Open the Nespresso app and navigate to the "Connect" or "Add Machine" section so the app is actively scanning.
- On the machine, press and hold the brew button for exactly 5 to 7 seconds. Release the button the moment the light begins to pulse white rapidly. This rapid pulsing is the only visual confirmation that the BLE module is in discovery mode.
- On your phone, the machine should now appear in the list. Select the device and confirm the pairing request. If prompted for a PIN, the default is typically 0000 or 1234, though most modern VertuoPlus models use a secure automatic handshake.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Factory Reset: If the machine is stuck in a loop, you can reset the software. With the machine on, press the brew button 5 times quickly within 3 seconds. The light will blink to confirm the reset. Now, repeat the pairing process from the FIX section above.
- Toggle Location Services: On Android devices especially, Bluetooth scanning requires "Precise Location" to be enabled. Go to Settings > Apps > Nespresso > Permissions and ensure Location is set to "Allow all the time" or "While using the app." Without this, the app is programmatically blocked from seeing BLE devices.
- Clear App Cache: Force-close the Nespresso app, go to your phone's storage settings, and clear the app cache and data. Re-log into your account and attempt the pairing process again. This removes corrupted temporary files that may be blocking the discovery sequence.
- Distance Calibration: The BLE antenna is located near the top of the machine. Ensure your phone is within 2 feet of the machine during the initial pairing. Once the bond is established, you can move the phone further away, but the initial handshake requires a high signal-to-noise ratio.
Heads Up
- Battery Optimization: If you are on Android, disable "Battery Optimization" for the Nespresso app. If the OS puts the app to sleep in the background, the Bluetooth connection will drop every time you close the screen.
- Firmware Updates: Once connected, the app may prompt you for a firmware update. Do not unplug the machine or turn it off during this process, as it can brick the Bluetooth module, requiring a full motherboard replacement.
- Interference: Avoid placing the machine directly next to a high-powered Wi-Fi router or a cordless phone base, as these operate on similar frequencies and can cause the "Device Not Found" error to recur.
